Does anyone know why after disconnecting the windscreen heater switch and reconnecting it, the timer relay has set itself to half a second? Not plug & play then?
I should add, I disconnected all the central dash switches to replace the centre "puma dash" housing.

Factory fitted heated screens are timed via an ecu. If your using an after market relay that has a preset or the variable option then replace the relay, they are know to go faulty.

Thank you for your response. Its a factory fitted relay and heated windscreen. It worked perfectly fine prior to the disconnect of the dash switch. On reconnection you can clearly hear the click of the relay on and then off within 1 second. I know they work on a timer, usually 10 or 12 minutes but now seems to have re-set to half a second. I am hoping some of the clever landyzoners have come across this before and their is an obvious diagnosis. Any help gratefully recieved.

The front screen is fed via fuse F7 (30A) in the fuse box under the drivers seat, and a relay. The screen timer is off fuse F4 (5A) in the fuse box under the fascia. The screen should switch off after approx. 8 minutes. The heated screen only works with the engine running.
The rear heated screen is not on a timer, you have to switch off with the switch :rolleyes:. Wiring diagrams attached------

Thanks for responding; the information is accurate but not the source of my query. I have a windscreen heater switch that lights up, clicks the relay and then immediately switches off with the relay clicking again. All of this following my disconnection (briefly) of the switch at the dash. My assumption is that the timer relay has reset itself from 8 minutes to 0.5 seconds. Does this mean I need a new timer relay or is it something else?
Hope that clarifies the problem. Thank you for your help.

You might have to double check your connections, a poor connection might be enough to light the switch but fail under the load of the heater hence cutting out after less than a second.

Thanks Col. I'll have another look but the switch is a push fit and I have pressed it back in place twice now. Strange a plug and play item can be so temperamental!

Likely that something got disturbed behind the dash. I'm no expert but would investigate the following, with reference to these attachments;
Relay (connections C0994-) and Timer (connections C1624-). Illustrations indicate these are piggy-backed to each other behind the dash.
Earths (connections C0550- and C0289-). These earths also connect lots of other items so if things like the radio still work, these earths "should" be ok.
Or, there might be a dead parrot in there :D
