hi everyone my front drivers side window bangs when i close it, itworks fine until it reaches the top and trys to carry on as though it does not know when to stop , is there a stop switch or is it a faulty lift motor any help appreciated .2002 discovery td5 gs

Your window regulator is on its "way" out, its either wearing the teeth down and because of this it slips and the motor does not "overtorque" to shut off and thats what the bang is.

The other scenario is the regulator spot welds have sheared, or atleast a couple of them and the whole mechanism is hitting something when it gets to full travel as the window motors are very strong and will flex the regulator easily if its coming apart.

It's a common problem and needs to be sorted before it breaks completely and leaves you stuck with the window down. They are not expensive to buy and about 30 mins to change.

Thank you Urban Panzer for your reply appreciate it , i will investigate at the week end time permitting. it makes sense that it could be the problems you have mentioned. thanks again

Mine did exactly the same, i took the door liner off and noticed the bottom 10mm bolt had ripped the inner door liner, so i made a small plate, drilled a centre hole in it for the 10 mm bolt, drilled 6 smaller holes on the outside of the plate and riveted it to the door, replaced the bolt. Now no more banging.
