My synthetic winch line arived today and ive fitted it. It seems sketchy to me, and i dont like the way it crushes down on the other rope under it on the winch drum when you put it under pressure. But worst of all, it clashes with the paintwork. Whos on synthetic rope? Is there anything i need to know befor i use it?

RIch.

yes never use a roller fairlead it will fook up your rope.rope is 1/4 the wieght of wire rope and i think performs better,if youve ever seen a winch cable snap which i have youd never use one again it can take your leg off.the rope will crush on the drum but thats normal.i tend to take my rope out fully once a month and wash with soapy water thats all i do really

thats why you should use winch blankets/sails as it will take most of the energy out of the cable by acting as a parachute

Whiplash off a dyneema rope can be pretty brutal as well.

Problem with winch rope as opposed to cable is that it's very difficult to see if it has been weakened or damaged as the outer sheaf hides the damaged fibres. Whereas with cable, frays kinks cuts etc are usually petty obvious.

well thats a new one on me a piece of plastic winch blanket is gonna slow down a steal rope that has energy stored in it and snaps and flys back at god knows what mph your saying a winch blanket is gonna slow it down:confused:
i always use a winch blanket and the recovery i was watchin was using a winch blanket it did nothin to slow down the rope when it snapped:confused2:

i thought when a plasma rope snaps it simply falls to the floor and doesnt snap back?

plastic winch blanket????? where was it from aldi ffs use a durty great lump of heavy cotton

and to be honest you shouldn't be near it anyhow, thats why you have a wander lead! so you can get out of the way.

those ones that come with the winch aren't worth a **** mate you might as well tie a hanky to it, get an old decorators dust sheet (thick cotton) or a lump of ex army tent and stick that over it, it needs to be about 4' x3' to do any good
