Under my landy
I'm using my landie as a site vehicle at a festival next week - the site is bascially on a hill on grass and the weather between now and then is wet. It will be used to tow empty vans up hill (if needed) and run kit around

So... Do i spend my none existant money on a set of insa turbo mud tyres and rims to suit or do i go with a cheapy winch off ebay (4X4 WINCH 12000LB TRAILER RECOVERY WIRELESS REMOTE 12V on eBay (end time 05-Jun-10 13:01:14 BST))

Its a 2a 88" pick up currently with A/T tyres and the standard 2 1/4 petrol engine - which i think has a minor leak as its not compressing properly (on decents putting in low 1st won't slow it down it will just make the engine go faster :( ) - got a solution to that problem just not the time to implement it for next week!

Or - the alternative is to keep the misses happy and buy the new carpet for the landing / hall i've been promising for so long...

Buy a bumper? You have to be kidding. A sheet of metal welded down in front of the radiator across the chassis / bumper will do the trick nicely. :)

And for £750 i could have the tyres and winch! we're not all made of money y'know.

Well done mike :p

Are you a sheet metal worker? If so it will be easy to nock up somthing like this you just need to know where to fix it to :p

Hi Mike,
If the AT's are worn out then definitely get the tyres.
Otherwise keep the misses happy and let her choose some carpet for the landing and hall!

Are you a sheet metal worker?

Nope, i'm hoping one of the many metal works around would oblige - the last time i needed some bits of metal i walked into one and they were very helpful and gave me what i needed + loads of extra bits from their scrap bin :)

The A/T are ok, definetly up for replacement in the next 6-12 months or so... but i don't want to show the Landie world up by not performing when required at the festival...

I guess logic does say the promised carpet should take priority over my pride / like for showing off to friends... :(

Tyres will be more use than a winch.

A winch will take too long to set up. If the ground is that muddy and you are pulling up a hill you will need to anchor yourself before you can winch. You then have to worry about making sure you don't burn the motor out. You also have to think about the safety of the festival numpties that will walk up to or get in the danger area of the winch cable.

I don't bother using my winch (other than if I'm loading my truck) when I work festival sites. It's too big a risk.

GOOD Tyres and good tow rope will see you right, you may burn out a cheep winch !! then that would just a wast of money and all sorts of earake of your better half.

Cheers guys, guess the tyres are the priority then, but maybe after the carpet.

Having checked out the weather forecast myself it appears to actually be sunny between now and the festival, not wet, so should cope with the A/T anyway
