Wiltshire green lanes

I was surprised how dry the lanes were around the plians this weekend.

Been from Chievely services down to Bridport Dorset this weekend and back again. 400 miles and the lanes were so quiet.

Some of them lanes by the Cotswold airport have been graded & stone infill so no more mud runs. Very tight through a couple of them I even got out with the cutters as my paint was taking a hammering.

I just pushed on through, amazing how much shrubbery I had inside the car with me. Got hit on the head by a few loose branches ..

Happy to be sitting by the beach enjoying the sun after the tourture this morning.

Few other photos of today.as the lanes were tight we bailed out after 1/2 way so @Hilux81 had some paint left on the motor.
Still had some nice miles. Plenty of horses out.

They’re just potholes
Not real water, he didn’t even get muddy water on the paint
We sometimes have that much running down the road in front of the house.

Upload 2 complaints to the ROW Wiltshire site.
Site provides an up to date ROW map so you quote the path number but later they want location. This map does not show the lane so they won’t get correct positions. You have to hover a pin drop near it.

Replies for ROW officer to say trees have been removed.
And on the route we went past 1 to find the lane now clear.

Out today and ventured wilts/west Berkshire/oxford borders.
Once again we went round the Ridgeway’s before closures in October.

Then went towards snap & auldbourne

Then onto lambourne. All round here is horse racing country


Ended up onto the ridgeway towards harwell



Some lane too tight so we missed them out. Bushes pruned back in places.
Good day about 85miles with loverly views

Getting the Hilux fixed this week

Out walking the dog & looking at some repaired sections of byways.now this was a water/mud hole & is open all year. But as it’s right by the ridgeway plenty of other users could not get passed.
This has been filled in & drainage ditch dug.they have also filled some of the chalk ruts in further along the route


Now what annoys me is the route is open all year & people think they can still stray of the nice surface & make a mud run. This impacts upon all users & most of these idiots do it on an evening/night when no one can complain.



Good to see a couple of trail bikes out using this as a link road to the petrol station meeting point.



Quick catch up with the club & get them to update if lanes need cutting back & how to request this from the council.

Nice pics! A pity that a minority continue to drive off-piste and threaten it for the rest of us.

Last year this section was closed & hopefully will be open after repairs to ruts.
Just need to make sure the big log is moved & the gate at the other end is unlocked.


before the works on the ruts were performed we chatted about tractors causing damage & it was said none used this route. Well tyre tracks past a locked gate show they use this route between fields.
As farm implements get bigger so will the lanes.
