had a prob with a scorpion exhaust system for a range rover efi if its pre 93 i think he said it needs a cat

Are these much louder than the standard exhaust? My 300tdi has the standard exhaust on and would like to simplify it. Bear in mind I am nearly 40 and got through the boy racer stage of life. To be fair I doubt the exhaust could be much louder than the TDi throb!

Not really, the turbo acts as a silencer anyway, we have no silencers on our 90.

i was under the impression that if a vehicle should be fitted with a cat, it would fail the mot if it was missing, regardless of it it passed the emissions test

The "Cat" on a TD5 isn't even a cat. it's a particle filter.
