hi im after nowing if the wheel nuts/studs will fail mot pics below to explain more its in for the dredded mot on sat morn more or less everything else is done but need to no about the wheels and does any 1 no if the series 3 will fail on not having hazzard warning lights? as there aint a switch i can find at all indicators work all fine just no hazzards n switch not even an hole where it used to be etc cheers in advance

My wheelnuts are the same (disco wheels on a series) and goes through the mot ok,if it was never fitted with hazard flashers then it doesent need them for the test.
 
Wheel nuts do look a bit iffy as they're not in 'Safety'' ie there are'nt at least two threads protruding from the nut.
 
Every steel wheel I ever fitted to LR products never had 2 threads showing. Flush fitting was normal. That is for discos & RRCs, none of them ever failed for not having protruding threads.

I personally wouldnt like it, but should be secure like that if done up properly.
 
My wheel nuts are just like yours and always passes.

As long as they are tight it will pass.

If hazards not fitted then you dont need them. Mine doesnt have them - worst that will happen is that they will look in the cab to make sure they arent fitted.

Right, problem is the disco steelie has a thicker boss, same as a wolf wheel.
Measured these up the other day, and its quite significant, about three or four mm.
I DOUBT an MOT Man would fail that on a series, as long as the wheels are secure, stud protrusion isn't ALWAYS the measure of whether the studs are on far enough, and many nuts are 'cap-nuts' which the stud cant protrude through anyway.

You intend using the thing as a P&P tool though, so in the longer run, given that you are likely to be using it hard, and have heavy duty wheels on there, be worth getting and fitting longer studs, just to be sure.
 
I have the same wheels on my series 3, only I have the aforementioned capnuts, and it has passed the test, so long as 1.5 times the diameter of the stud is inside the threaded portion the nut will hold to the shearstrength of the stud.
The inspector probably wont pull you on this, unless he see's a load of other crap wrong and gets a cob on, happened to me before.
 
i've got an '82 series 3 which has never been pulled up on not having hazard lights but i did have to fit a foglight last year.
 
land rover nuts are longer the normal so allthough the dont protude they have plenty of thread holding on, dont bother about it
 
:Dwould just like to a big thanks for all my questions anserd as im new to this very young and would like it to work out in the future going on playdays after a few lessons of how to use the thing properly. its passed the mot thanks with your help with only 2 advisories 2 front brake flexis he ajusted the carb screw for the co to come down and that was it . he mentioned to me the tyres were oversize 235/85/16 but wasnt a fail . all i have had to do on this since i have bought it are clean the brakes up (new ones fited 4 years ago and only done 1000mile) and welding on the chassi abouve the rear bump stops. oh and a washer pump to say its been stood 3+years i thought it was pritty good and thanks for all the help p.s whens the next play day near derbyshire for novices cheers:D
