So close to the MOT

Hi everyone,
I have almost finished my renovation of my TD5 2000 defender which I started in July 2019. Ive got two things to sort before it goes for her MOT, OFS wing repeater is not working (I should have checked before I refitted the inner and out wing - ahhhhhhhhh) and the Immobiliser warning light (Red engine with bolt through it).

I am pretty confident that I will sort the wing indicator (although I have changed the bulb which made no difference) but the warning light is a pain. My first question is, is that a MOT fail? I have had a bit of a journey with the immobiliser and managed to permanently disable it through the ecu and then the 10AS unit, which is great because it starts ever time now and the horn has stopped honking when I turn the key.

I am not sure that the light can be turned off if even if I had a reader that can connect to the TD5.

Any help appreciated as I am sooooooo close to getting her back on the road

Thanks for the reply. I think the light is a LED. Ive got a couple of minor things to sort and then I'll put her through the MOT. Cheers
 
Put Landy in last week to the MOT garage and failed on headlight adjustment, wipers not covering the screen and engine management light. So I swapped out the to two wiper boxes and the cable, which wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and took about an hour all together. Remember to grease that cable!! Funny thing tho, I bought a wiper motor just incase as it wasnt too much £40 for a Bearmach. When I opened it up to put the cable in there was not cog or anything inside it! Good job the original motor is ok. Sweeps like a champ now. Next up I fitted some new headlight bowls, which weren't there originally and sorted the alignment, 60 cm from wall, mark it up, reverse 8 metres, cover a headlight at a time and bingo. Next a quick run up to the local Landy independent and the diagnostics check sorted the light. Sussed out that the immobiliser light as down to the 10AS unit (probably the original fault - could have saved me a lot of time and hassle if I'd checked !).

Anyhoo, took her in for a retest today and flew through. I even got an advisory for having an undersealed chassis, which I will wear like a badge of honour!

Me an my 22 year daughter started the restoration in July last year with absolutely no mechanical knowledge, so we are pretty chuffed with how she turned out. Just ordered a new intermittent wiper switch as the wipers arent stopping every time and the intermittent has never worked. If theres one thing Ive learnt when working on Landy is always check the easy thing first. If its not the relay then its the parking switch.

I've been on whith mine since 2017 hoping for MOT Sometime this year. o_O I hope. Just goes to show it can be done , I'm hopeless at mechanics only got this far with help from people on here. Well Done Mate
 
Well done. I bet the two of you have learned a lot over the last months. Will stand you in good stead in years to come when it comes to repairing thing's and not just Land Rovers. :)
