I am currently having a bespoke 110 county built based on a late 300Tdi P/R reg.
It will have complete re-spray, puma bonnet and look like a 2014 model.
I am having the rear side windows replaced with solid utility sides.

  1. Will my policy cover the cost of a bespoke build replacement? i.e £11k
  2. Will converting the back to utility make a difference? Log book will still say 110 County I think!
  3. Will tinting the windows and adding an alarm reduce my insurance by much?
  4. Does sign writing (I'm a decorator) increase the premium? It will only be written for advertising as I have another van for work
  5. Can I have my Defender and my commercial van on one policy?
Cheers

I can answer some of this but not all

even painting it a different colour is considered a modification even a standard solid colour ( had this issue with mine ) paint it metallic and it gets more problematic

tinting the windows increase premium's mot reduce ,and alarms have to meet a certain criteria and be professionally installed to make a difference

sign writing also increases the cost

make sure you have some vasaline ready if your changing the roof :D

Contary to the above, i found sign writing would decrease the cost on a commercial policy as it would make it less desirable to steal as it would be harder to transport away without first removing all sigh writing...

i do agree that tinted windows = reduced visability = higher insurance risk

... given the number of stolen Puma bonnets... i wonder where your's came from?

Thanks for the feedback, I will have to get some quotes in.

I am told mine has come off a facelift Tdi ready for US export only to have to be removed due to strict import laws regarding Defenders.

There's a lot of changes there, so it's hard to say what the overall premium is likely to be. Fitting a Thatcham cat 1 (using a registered installer) to my fairly standard TD5 Defender did bring my premium down, but that was also after a further year's claim free motoring.

Thinking about the re-spray, the defender will be registered with the new colour on the log book. Would this be considered non-standard?

On another subject I have just had a quote from Bewiser for £9,539.97 with a £1,250.00 excess. Have to say I was tempted.

Takes the mickey out of the privacy glass option on Land Rovers then! (My D2 XS has it). Or are you just referring to aftermarket tints which might well be any colour and shade until the police pull you?

Mines been resprayed a different colour (land rover colour but from a later model) and it didn't make one bit of difference to the premium.

when I painted mine from green to yellow they considered it a modification as it was not "factory standard" anything which is not factory standard is a mod

dosent mean the price will go up but it depends on the company, in my case they tried to
