will not start

hi i trtied to start it today and it will not even fire all i can hear is a noise like a machine gun as if the starter motor is jammed or something is there anyway of testing the starter motor off the car it was fine before this no starting problems at all now just a loud noise from the starter motor area help!!!

is the battery fully charged ?

tried giving it a whack whilst someone trys to turn the engine over over??

tried a different battery in it and it tried to start for about 2 seconds then went on to the loud machine gun noise so put the other battery back in and it just goes on to the loud machine gun noise straight away confused surely if the starter motor is knackered another battery should not change this

can you make a recording of the sound and post it somewhere

have you tried jumping it or buimp starting it?It aint an auto is it?

its a manual gearbox havent tried jumpstarting it yet might give that a go its sounds as if the starter motor is jamming or sticking but very fast hence the machine gun like sound

Do you know if either battery is any good?Jump starting it should tell you if its the battery or the starter motor.If yer bump it then at least ya can drive it to get fixed!Or pick up parts....

Machine gun noise sounds like it could be solenoid. Usually happens when there is either not enough electrickery in the battery, cabling failed, or the solenoid is boogered.

checked voltage on battery it was 12.4 charged it for a couple of hours giving me 13.4 and engine started straight away no machine gun noise just normal starting
