Hi there,

I'm new to LandyZone so please bear with me,

Can anyone tell me any possible reason why my Land Rover is listed as registered on the 13th October 1967 (on an F plate) but the chassis number states it as a 1961 Series 2?

It has early features, push button start etc.

Any insight would be very welcome!

Many thanks.

Could have been exported and re imported, been in the military or it might have had a chassis swap.

Thanks for your reply,

It does / did have a few things that I think might suggest military, i.e. bonnet straps, light guards, etc.

Will have to dig a bit deeper I think!

In those days the military ones often received a number plate for they year they were disposed of rather than the year they were built. I dont think people cared about that herritage then. After all the whole concept of an age related number plate was still new then.

Thanks,

Suppose it would make sense if it was military up to 1967.

Anyone know what are the easiest tell-tale signs of an ex-military Series Land Rover?

I appreciate the replies I've had and any more that follow!

Some, though not all, had double front bumperets and square bumperets on the Rear crossmember.

Many had a squarer rear cross member with 4 equally spaced holes in the middle for the military tow jaw instead of the larger hole for a 50mm towbar, but of course at that age the cross member has probably been replaced

You could try asking Gaydon heritage museum about the chassis number, they hold all the records now and should be able to tell you who it was originally despatched to.

Post a few piccies up showing the front, rear and complete dashboard then someone may help.

Try scraping through the paint especially on the rear tub to search for signs of Nats green

Thanks for your reply,

I will look into Gaydon heritage museum and I will post some pics soon, just in the middle of fitting a Tropical Station Wagon roof & side panels while keeping the split 'catflap' tailgate. There were no brackets in the new roof for the upper tailgate hinges so I'm having to swap them over.

Cheers.
