nope, i need this rangey, its my everyday motor, and me and a bunch of other people have spent bloody ages trying to sort this out. why anyone would put a round bolt on anything is beyond me, centre is rounded out so no allen key will work. about redy to throw petrol on the bugger so definitely not using any language that isnt colourful

well you not gonna use them again are ya so cant you grind them off? or failing that grind flat edges on eithr side of the head n unsrew them wi mole grips.

can yer hammer a socket on it ? and sell me yer 109 !

tried, and didnt move it.

you can have the 1974 series III for next to nothing if you want it :p tis n 88 though

grinding em off means the main bit stays in place, would need to drill the rest out, which would be a nightmare coz of the position

If yu grind the heads off and remove the starter you'll have enough room to weld nuts onto the remainder and undo em that way. That or weld nuts onto the socket heads. I've found that hammering an oversized TorX bit into the socket cap sometimes works. or use a thin cold chisel or strong screw driver and an hammer on the outer edge of the socket will usually get it moving.

There you go,a couple of good ideas - bit of thought.
When I get a tricky one like that I always think of it as being a life or death situation, being stuck in the Sahara desert. You either stay there and die or think of a way to fix it and drive to the pub - hence surviving.Works for me,there is usually a way around it,few problems are insurmountable.

You can buy special sockets for removing rounded off nuts or Allen bolts that are internally rounded. Just search for them in tool suppliers.

Are the starter motor bolts not allen bolts with round heads?

I distinctly remember cutting a 10mm allen key to make a stud i could get a C-wrench on to take off my starter on top of a mountain
