Why on earth won't the back door lock?

Thanks to everyone who helped out with my starter solenoid arcing question- that's now a work in progress. So in addition to that, the exhaust leak, the diesel leak and various other fluid leaks the back door won't lock. This is the first time I have ever bought a vehicle on eBay without seeing it first- lesson learned!

I have removed and cleaned the lock and it works perfectly, with the key as well but only when the door is open. Try and lock it when closed and it just won't do it. It looks like the door isn't closing far enough to engage the lock but it can't go any further- even with me pulling on it and with my foot on the frame.

Anyone got any ideas? Currently a security risk as she's out on the street but I do have a massive chain and bike padlock round the pedals and through the sterring wheel!

its a bloody series you should have known better about the door  they don't work, they fit together badly and thats whats brilliant about them

unbolt it, move it a little or check the striker and move that a bit

Mine did not have any locks working at all when I bought it. It was not until I wanted to lock it up for the night that I realised. A few pounds for a matching set sorted it but the back door still needs a good slam to shut, even after a lot of messing around to "improve" things.

Is your spare wheel on the back door if so there should be a wedge fitted to door which goes into a slot to help lift and carry the weight when closed.Just below the lock on attached pic.
The lock keeper on the body section can be adjusted by slackening the two bolts to move it outward if the seal is preventing it closing.

Have you tried adjusting the catch on door pillar, I have had to loosen the fixing and try get to door to close and lock and mark where catch is and tighten up when it is in the right place, u can normally see from inside where it is getting stuck.
