Hi there,

I am looking for LHD car but cannot choose between Land Rover Freelander (2000-2003) and Range Rover (1997-2002)
Comparing prices between LR and RR it's a big price gap, why ?

What's +/- for freelander and Range Rover? I am looking for Left hand drive car, because it's more cheaper to register car outside UK. Also what's common problems with 1997-2003 year old Range Rovers and Landrovers ?

Regards,
Ed

A range rover is a completely different class of vehicle to a gaylander. Think s class but taller.

Range Rover is far more capable, both on and off road, not to mention being a larger machine.

Possibly the Freelander has more mechanical problems? Or just different ones?

You can have a butler with a range rover and no one bats an eyelid. Tell anyone you drive a gaylander and have a butler and they'll think he's fluffing you and curling your hair in private

Have you ever had any problems with your Land Rover or Ranve Rover ? what's main popular problems ?

Hey ED where are you in the world it sounds some what like Poland where you can pick up a decent 97 98 disco RR and gaylander for roughly the same sort of money but the newer you go the more expensive they get with the RR wining but you are definatly in Europe as that is the trend around here.

Surely if you don't know the difference between a Range Rover and a Freelander then a Freelander will do?

Or is that too simplistic?

I'm in UK. Nah I am not from Poland.

Opinions about 1998 Range Rover 2.5 diesel ?

what's the average price for Range Rover parts (pumps, gearbox etc.) ?

Ask yourself why you want a LR in the first place (they're great motors, but not everyone wants one) then visit a couple advertised near you to see what they're like from the inside.

In essence, the Freelander is a raised-ground-clearance car with bad-weather capability. Crudely speaking, it's a Rover 400 on stilts with an estate body and AWD conversion fitted. IRD and rear drive aside, it is a late 1980s family car. It does not have diff locks, it does not have a heavy-trailer-friendly chassis, it does not have off-road gear ratios. It works in fields, on rough roads and in the snow. It does not work in quarries.

The Range Rover is a purpose-built, luxuxry off-road machine that will go almost anywhere a Defender will. It's bigger, heavier, thirstier but roomier and a lot more capable than a Freelander. It works pretty much wherever you point it if you fit it with the right tyres.

Both were built before LandRover got the quality bug good and proper.
Both have known issues.
Check the buying advice to be found on this site and elsewhere.

Ignore the "Gaylander" references - they're driven by fuel-bill envy.
A V6 Freelander will drink with the best of them though.

Why the price difference? Would you pay the same for a holiday as you would for a Matisse ?

Thanks KeepDigging for your very important answer, that make sense.
What would be the differences between RR and LR part prices ? Also what kind of issues have most often ? I mean what kind of spare parts do they need change ?

What do you think about idea if I have a RR or LR (right hand drive car) petrol in the UK and wish to import it to where I live. I want to convert the car from RHD to LHD and I wondered how involved such a swap would be. Obviously, dashboard, steering rack, headlamp glass, pedal box and possibly steering column would have to be swapped over, but I wondered how does it will fit all together ? I found on gumtree they are doing RR and LR conversions about 600pounds.

Any advice/tips gratefully revceived!

You would be cheaper and easier just buying a LHD but I can't imagine its too easy on a rangie or a gaylander. A defender would be a piece of **** to convert compared to them but you're not after one of those
