Hi guys
Why is there a difference between a Def 200 and Disco 200 as regards oil levels, just wondering that's all as I have had both and could never understand why as everything looks the same on both engines

Here we go this pic is from my Defender Haynes book showing 6 lts for the 200tdi engine and the other pic is from my Disco Haynes book showing 6.9 lts for the 200tdi engine.
Think I added a little bit to allow for the oil filter as the Def book gives you the amount without the filter and the Disco Haynes book gives you the amount with the filter

But just realised I have read it wrong thinking it was 6 lts for the Def and 6.9 for the Disco forgetting about it being .85 for the oil filter in the Def so as you say they are both the same DOH

Dont forget 6.8 will be for a dry engine ie one thats never seen engine oil before, put 6.8 in one on an 0il change and you will have to drain some out.

Defender engine also has a different dipstick instead of the usual disco L/H they have L/N/H.

Yeah with the X dressed 200 I have fitted to the 2a I have put in 6.8lts in but the engine isn't at a running stage yet there is a new oil filter fitted and the sump is clean and dry inside as I have had the sump and ladder off so all that was cleaned when I re-fitted them, I need to fit a new tdi rad with oil cooler and have new pipes made up so I am hoping all that will take up the access oil that's in the engine now as its reading well above the Danger mark atm :)
