I run around in an Omega 3.0 saloon on LPG wife has a newish S-Max. We are forever doing something with horses or dogs or children in to dirt. I was getting right hacked of with the S-Max getting trashed. So as it became apparent we were going to need a tow car to pull a horse box and it's going to get trashed and covered in horse poo not forgetting said Muttley getting involved with the cross field excursions with the horse box I decided I wanted a Landy or a P38. However i found Disco 1's had got silly cheap. So I got a 3.9 on LPG. Problem is I'm already hatching plans to do a bit of mild green laneing and the bolt on goodies look so good I can see this cheap motor emptying my pockets as fast as my Lotus Carlton does

i needed to learn how to weld !

I bought mine simply to tow my caravan as i was told they were very capable (yet to tow), and the fact i can get spares very cheaply just sealed the deal...

Well i had to have it cause of the 3.9 v8 on lpg so much better then the frontera's i have had

Hi all,newbie here reporting for duty! Interesting thread, thought I'd chuck my thoughts in too.
Had an old series 2a swb 2 1/4 petrol. I liked it, but not enough to keep welding plates on the chassis, replacing outriggers, doors, doortops, tailgates, etc. When the bulkhead went, I called it a day.
Next was a '94 surf. Comfy, quick, MASSIVE load space. Developed lots of electrical issues, then got really thirsty (12 mpg!) so that went too.
'01 Freelander next, 1.8 petrol. Nice to drive but another thirsty beast. Viscous coupling seized, something went clunk and lost front wheel drive. £400 for a coupling? plus whatever was needed to get the front wheels going again. Bye-bye Freelander.
Now have a '96 N plate disco 2.5 tdi. No rust anywhere, 79k genuine miles with all Mot's and a full dealer service history from 2 owners. Its a basic model with no air con to fail and no sun roofs to leak. Up to the point of reading this forum I had convinced myself I'd bought a reliable and cheap to maintain practical 4x4 that would give me years of troublefree service. . . . . . . should I now be thinking "Whoops.."?

Long distance drive to Scotland a couple of time a year. Not sure my wife would enjoy in fender ?

Wanted a Land Rover for 28 years. Finally the time came and I got the chance to by a Disco 2 Landmark. So far the car is great for towing a horsebox with 2 horses which it handles with ease. But the beauty of it is when I have to go on long journeys up to Scotland. It's soooooooo comfy that when I arrive at my destination I'm not the least bit tired!!

Would find it difficult to part with it but I know at some point I will but I'll replace it with another Disco.

ps Even the wife and kids love it. Not sure about the dog though, she struggles to jump up into the back!

Live on a farm with no proper road.
Gone through 3 cars over the last two years. All had suspension problems.
Needed a more robust machine! If this Disco doesn't do it then I'll get a horse.

Personally, it was because I wanted something capable off road and a comfortable over long distance. I got a D1, virtually zero electronics and keeps on going.

I was given mine, got given the TD5 as mum was thinking about moving up in cars and my Laguna was being a pain in the arse. I got given the 300 V8 because I needed to replace the van that dad wanted gone and the TD5 had broke.

Some time later I was left with 2 broken Discoverys that I was given, thinking would a Defender be a better option.....

To add insult to injury her indoors has now decided she wants a black P38 Range Rover not sure I can stomach 3 broken Land Rovers on the drive.

Don't worry the p38 probly wouldn't make it to your drive anyway

First Landy was a Sll 88", liked it a lot, daily driver needed changing, math in the trade had a N reg 300TDi, the enemy liked driving it, job done.
Now on our 3rd 300TDi Disco, also have a 300TDi 'fender and the old Disco is being made into a NCF Sahara.

Life was far too easy and trouble free, so decided on a disco to bring me lots of pain, misery, sadness and financial hardship. Certainly did the trick.

swapped my x-type jag for disco 2 just so i could pull my 26ft caravan, it was ripping the heart out of the jag.

because I needed a good school run car, the lotus is crap in the snow and gave the family passat back to VW as I was getting fed up paying for it every month- however seem to be spending alot on the disco..........never mind having lots of fun with it.

Bought another for a heart transplant scrapping the rest
Disco 3 for towing and every day

sold my defender to help with house deposite! i'm a welder by trade so thought lets create some work for myself!
