Why did you buy a disco!!

Took my Range Rover Sport off roading a couple of times and enjoyed it that much I thought I would get a toy that didn't matter getting bashed about. Ended up with a Disco 1 300tdi Auto

I've had three Discos; two 3.9 V8s and a 300tdi.
All bought as they were cheap and I couldn't afford a Defender, all bar the 300 were getting rusty and all served me extremely well.
Might still have one now except for a comment from a really good friend (who owns a 90) when she described me as a 'disco loving ladyboy'
Needless to say, with pride sufficiently dented I am now have a V8 90 CSW and absolutely love it!

Brilliant for carrying Labradors . Two sunroofs to open when you leave them in it.

I nearly exchanged my Defender for a Disco as I wanted more creature comforts but for some reason I just couldn't let my Defender go. I have improved the heaters and suspension, now I just love the Defender and have decided this one is for life. Its great for an every day vehicle round here in the French countryside. Everyone gives way, No one has cut me up. Probably the big bull bars put people off.

Being a petrol head heavily into modded cars all my life I had never even considered a 4x4 unless it was a Skyline GTR (Still on my wish list for one day).

Then my best mate, a fellow petrol head got a disco as his landlord had a 90 and he used to go out green laning.

One night I blagged a lift during one of these green lane nights and loved the experience. I started looking for my own one straight away but being me, insisted on a V8.

I found one the day before my wife's birthday, and as she was not happy about it I convinced her it was so we could all enjoy it as a family. We went to Bures the next day and I made her drive it (was set up as a birthday treat) and I got to go in it for the last half hour of the day, she loved it.

The V8 did great, only suffering a bit of deep puddle splutter Twice in the 6 months I had it and I only sold it because 10-15mpg was not good.

Had a couple of 300tdi's since and they went most places on standard size AT's and standard suspension. I am on my 3rd Disco and have only just fitted larger tyres and a 2" lift.

Even my wife drives it Daily now while out 330 Sport convertible is SORN after expecting another early winter, and she even wants to sell the Beemer for a newer disco or RR Sport.

I have a project Astra convertible in my garage that hardly gets touched now as I am usually fixing something on the Landy but I would never be without one now.

I got mine to replace a Frontera I was using, I only got into off roading after getting the Frontera for £200, I went down to bures and loved it. I ended up getting a disco as I blew the front diff up on the vauxhall.

Since getting it I have fitted an articulation setup (extreme4x4 Evo kit), +2" springs, +2" shocks, 2" dropped mounts, bump stops, cones, 31" Sahara Turbos, pair of home made HD bumpers, steering/tank guard and some little odds and sods...

I have had it out a few times and am very impressed, goes everywhere, loves the mud (pulled out plenty of people this weekend at bures), loves the big dips & steep climbs, so far it has performed excellently and im looking forward to doing more stuff with it...

The other thing I love about it is the fact its so easy to work on. I do all my own work and enjoy it, I hate some cars but with these its easy, if a bolt snaps it dont matter, theres no captive bolts, Its simple mechanics....

I bought one because I couldn't afford a Defender at the time and needed a capable 4x4 with at least 7 seats. I now have a 110 station wagon.

I needed a 4x4 to get across paddocks in winter months, had previously owned a Mitsi Pajero n didn't like it, saw my Discovery 300tdi, took it for a spin n fell in love with it, does everything I want n need from it, apart from it keeps going wrong lately n is now being sold.....however, I so badly want another slightly newer one, so if anyone knows of any down in Hampshire please be sure to let me know lol

Defenders have short wheel base and are too choppy on the road and too small in the cab, noisy and too uncomfy for long journeys and have the turning circle of an oil rig. Wouldnt buy another.

Errrrm..........Short wheel base ones do but funnily enough long wheel base ones dont

Had a 'fender 90 and had to sell it as the ride and the driving position was aggravating an existing injury. Ended up getting a Disco 300tdi (wanted an auto, but got a manual because the bodywork was good).

Want another 'fender, but one with an autobox in it if I can find one and want a RR P38 (yes, I know of the problems but they're just too pretty)

Baught mine coz I think there great, had a few fender 90s and there not practical. Just got a td5 disco n there just awesome, best looking 4x4 I think

Can't get a greyhound, lurcher n terrier and 2 kids and mrs in a fender 90 and don't like the 110's.

Hi all, new member so hello to all. Well family needed more space so bye bye bike bye bye Bmw and hellow new car .The wife saw a disco 200tdi and she said. I like I always loved 4x4 my first car was a willys so …… I didn’t oppose ……….

I changed the steel wheels on my Defender and adjusted the steering lock which has improved the turning circle. No problems now.

Bought it for towing capacity, we built a new combined trailer/RV this year, gross weight 3.5 tonnes.



Our display engine goes in the back, it weighs 1.3 tonnes by itself.
