Have you still got your digger ? Would that lift the drum off the mountings ?
Yes, still got the digger.
It might do the job but I'm not expecting it to be overly heavy once the slats are off, I'll have help of course.

Cool - good to read it's got a mechanical side to it, as mentioned in post #19 - hopefully, you should be able to use this to unload the springs in the drum, and re-load them when it all goes back together...

Extra slats are readily available all over the place - I have dealt with 2 separate companies for slats for ours.... no problems - even got some from the local scrappy which were really cheap :)

Well I got it down without too much drama. Slat end plates had to have the rivits drilled out and I could then slide a row of 6 out at a time. I then had to use that plastic tool to adjust the limits through trial and error to get the remaining slats off the drum and expose the M8 nuts holding the last slats in.
Drum was quite light really.
I can see now that the drum has definitely been shortened and there are further rivits fitted along the drum with the original rivit holes now unused and new holes drilled/rivited as the motor is further down the tube now.
The motor gubbins look very long judging by the distance.
I've not removed the motor yet, been busy dismantling the rest of the garage while it was dry weather.

looks like the drum has had around 2" lobbed off it if you observe the holes and rivits at about 7 'o' clock.
