Removed my gearbox (to fit new one) and noticed a really thin white wire hanging down the right side of the gearbox, just a bit of solder on the end of it. Any ideas of what it's purpose is chaps?

the handbrake switch wire is purple, i presume that we are speaking about an auto gearbox cos that's the only one which has a white wire in the wiring, only simple white(without any trace) wire is the one from the gearbox output shaft sensor circuit cable screen, it comes from connector(C0678-3) under the console and the connection to the loom where the shield ends somewhere near the gearbox valve block connector(C0243 E,F) see RAVE - Electrical library - Connector views... you have to trace that yourself cos i dont know where it is, i can tell that according to the diagram.

It's a manual gearbox, and I'm pretty certain it was hanging down before I removed the gearbox. Hopefully it relates to an autobox in which case it's not an issue of concern. I will however check this on RAVE, thank you for your help

AFAIK there's no white wire involved in the manual gearbox wirings
