all help wanted please let me know what to look for when timing belt goes? As white smoke smelling of unburnt diesel and tapping sound near DPS pump or timing belt. Break down man said he did not think it was the belt just fuel injections need setting up properly!! Plus does anyone know if the 110 2.5 na 92' plate is chain belt or rubber?

White smoke is often a fuelling failure of some sort, so could easily be injectors, pump, belt or anything in between the fuel tank and the injector. It can also be the converse of too much air such as cracks or holes in air inlet pipes.
 
If motor is still running even roughly then it is not the timing belt. Could also be head gasket blown between two cylinder's.
 
Does it smell of paraffin?
If so it could well be one or more of the injectors which is not closing, or the pump is too far retarded, or a bit of both!
Have you ferkled with anything, or have you just got it?

could be just injectors but tapping could be the hot spot which would give poor burn , if belt slipped a tooth white smoke and tapping would be symptoms too
 
Thank you for your replies! There is a strong smell of unburnt diesel from exhaust. The tapping only happens when I accelerate.
I have had the 110 for 4 months ! At the beginning of a great restoration job. I replaced the filters glow plugs and injectors, starter and fuel lift pump. I have not set up the injectors properly. Which I will get professionally done unless someone can give direction.
Hopefully it just needs setting up properly. What price would I be looking at for this job?

They are pintel type and are new I adjusted them one at a time with injector in clear bottle with plugs disconnected to observe spray pattern I must have it wrong as it seems the injector must have jumped a tooth due to me adjusting them which was about 1 month ago.
 
plugs disconnected ?crack of pressure is vital and cant be done with a glass bottle and eye, if its a 2.5 na crack off pressure is 135 bar, too high a pressure will retard injection

Yes cannot read pressure but viewing spray pattern helped to get it up and running. bottle plastic not glass! Sorting out a technician to set up my DPS pump and adjust injectors to suit to get it running right . What sort of cost should I be looking at James?
