which tyre size is best off road??

i bought some cheap alloy wheels off fleabay a while ago but when i picked them up they were 15inch ? they did come with 2 brand new tyres tho for not alotta money, so i was wondering what you lot thought of em, they're 30 x9.5 x15. or should i move em on and stick to 235/70/16 which seems to be a more popular size? they will only be for off road as i already have road biased treads on the rustowagon

genral concensus on ere is that yer need 15's or 16's to go off road n 22" to look like premership wazzuck. Now width of tire is completely up to you and there loads of theories about that.

thanks goonarmy, seeing as i already have 2 good ones i think i'll try to find two more 15" tyres and give them a go, that'll save me a few quid to put towards new floor and sills! i just wondered how they compare handling and grip wise compared to the 16" tyres s they are slightly narrower but taller sidewall

erm what rims are they? width wise 7"? 8"? 10"? my cousin runs 35 12.50 r15s on his bobtail disco and they are hooge, it all depends on what you wanna do with them, tall thin tyres are good for mud as they keep your diffs off the floor, and cut through to better ground (think crop sprayer but less extreem) where as sand you want big wide tyres to sit on top of it

i'm not sure what width the rims are, tyres are 30/9.5 15, i did look at them when i got them to see what make they were but i didn't see any markings on them, i'm having a day off from rust in the hair tomorrow so i'll have to have a look on monday. sounds like the rims are worth using though. what if i used the 2 tyres i have and get 2 wider ones for the other end? would that mean i can cut through mud and float over sand? or am i being a dick?

Back in the 70's and early 80's when people first wanted to fit wide chunky tyres to Range Rovers to make people think they drove off road, most of the tyres available were for American off roaders and were 15".
Real off roaders could buy 16" tyres meant for Land Rovers.
Now there are a wide range of 16" tyres available there is little point in going 15",
