Which one?

Hi, new here, I am looking to purchase a Landrover but before I part with the readies I was wondering about a few things.
Essentially, I am after a diesel lwb pick up that will need to fit the following requirements:

1. Completely user maintainable - no electronics or anything at all that requires the services of a dealer

2. Will take biodiesel without self destructing

3. Eligible for £185 tax band

4. Will manage the odd bit of dual carriageway without feeling it's going backwards

5. Will tow without too much huffing, puffing and clutch knackering i.e. enough power to pull the skin off a rice pudding


Never owned a Landy so I am not familiar with the models, engine types etc. that fits the above. I have a pathological fear of buying something full of electronics that will need a load of 'special' tools and diagnostic equipment only available at dealers.
I am mechanically competent so that side of it doesn't faze me in the least.

Sounds like you are after a defender 300tdi engined 110 pick-up or hi-cap.

If you are after extra seats then you will need a double cab or a 130.

300tdi double cab pickup HI-caps are nice work horses though if you can manage the single cab.

ooo 110 of coarse. more stable than a 90 when towing... so i have been told. ow yer you did say LWB so 110 or 130 it is.

I rode up from Devon to collect it from Bolton (Bloody nippy it was too), loaded up the bike when I got there and drove back.

Really pleased with it, some minor faults but overall excellent. Plenty of go, surprising shove in 5th.

Nice looking vehicle.
