Hi,

my rangie is in need of some new rubber. I've made my decision and ordered a set of GG AT2 in 235/70/16 (as i have the 7 inch wide rims), but the AT2 is not available any more in that size.

I'm now facing next choices:

GG AT2 225/75/16 XL, which is close to original diameter, just 1 cm narrower and has 17/32" thread depth

NEW GG AT 235/75/16, which would be the correct size for my wheels

or

GG AT2 245/75/16, which is a 31" tire, so i'm not exactly sure about it.

Range is my only car, so I need a tire, which will perform well on road, but can still do off-road. As I live in Slovenia, and we do get proper winters here with our share of snow, I also need a tire that would perform decent in snow. I was led to believe that AT2 was pretty good in the white stuff, but haven't heard any comments about the new style AT.

All three choices are in the range of 90-100 GBP per wheel. Any opinions?

Thanks...

I have the new GG AT on my P38 (255/55/18), and I've been impressed with them. A bit noisier than the original fit Scorpions but not excessively so. Grip in the wet and dry is very good. Comfort is also good. Haven't yet tried them in the mud or snow, so I can't comment there...

Oh, and tramlining is not a problem - car is very stable.

The GG AT is outstanding in the snow, I did my best to get stuck in pretty deep snow last winter - she just pulled through it! A good road tyre, great off-road and in the snow. Surprisingly good on mud. IMHO it's simply better than the old GG all terrain tyre as an all-rounder and much better in the snow where lateral grip seems to be much better.

As for noise - I can't hear any tyre noise at all.

whats the difference between the AT, UHP, HTS, BSW, apart from the tread pattern?
and is the AT better than the AT2?

sorry to sound stupid

Dunno about the HTS and BSW, but the UHP is road-biased whereas the AT is offroad-biased. Here are the reviews for the UHP and AT that I dug up when I was deciding which tyre to go for:

Grip - dry 1.6 1.4 1.9
Braking - dry 1.7 1.2 2.0
Grip - wet 2.0 2.0 2.6
Braking - wet 2.0 2.1 2.7
Grip in snow 2.9 2.8 2.8
Driving comfort 2.0 1.6 2.2
Internal noise 2.3 2.0 2.3
Tyre Wear 2.1 2.1 2.5

Overall score 2.04 1.89 2.4

First score in each line is the UHP, second score is the AT, and third score is the standard fitment Scorpions. LOWER score wins (so, for example, the AT wins on everything except braking in the wet where the UHP wins).
