Which Disco 1-Disco 2 Engine

Hi all,
As I’m totally new to the the Landrover family. Could someone advise me which engines to stay away from.
Essentially I’m looking at getting a toy that we can play with. Still not sure if it will be a Disco or a Defender. But for now I’m doing my homework on Discovery’s for now.

Saving for my budget to be 3000. O yes...... as well as me being new to Landrovers I’m also new to the UK....... 6 months new, so I’m presuming 3000 is sufficient???

Discovery 2 TD5 is in that price range

You could get a disco 1 for less than £1000 with a decent engine, gearbox, axles etc, and still have 2 grand to weld it up
Disco 1 is like a posh defender anyway pretty much the same underneath and will go the same places, bits are relatively cheap and not as many electrickery issues as likely with an older Td5
You'd be unlikely to get any sort of defender for 3k

Any Defender for that money is likely to be very rough, or stolen.

Disco 2 V8 Auto, good one for £12-15 hundred, spend the rest of the money on fuel.
