What blend motors would people recommend or are they all pretty much the same, do cheap pattern ones seem to last? Any pattern jobbies better than others? Ta.

I don't know if anyone apart from Valeo make them? depends on what side your doing, best advice I can give is this: if your driving a RHD RR then put a cheap one on the passengers side, as you can get to that easier than the drivers side so if it goes tits up again no sweat to fix it again, now the drivers one is a right pig (but i think there's a cheat for that some place) so buy a new one for that side cuz its not a job you want to repeat again soon

I know Britpart do 'em but I think I'll give them a miss for the sake of £45 difference.

I don't think there any better or worse Steve, put it this way the Valio ones are always going tits up, so what you got to lose? you have a statutory5 year guarantee anyway, so keep the receipt lol

Hi I fitted Britpart blend motors a few weeks ago. They are very cheap from Island 4x4. I compared them to the OEM ones and they are ok and compare well. The only issue I had was the Britpart plug was tight in the HEVAC. They work well. They should have a 2 year warranty!

They should have a 2 year warranty!

Yea but the law says different, 5 years, like almost everyone falls for that "would you like an extended warranty for that sir" that's the rip off

Hmmmm tempting, but the warranty doesn't refit the damn things when they go wrong! Although I'm pretty handy with a spanner, I'm also built like a heavyweight boxer! I don't fancy laying on my back in a footwell screaming at some impossible to reach screw! I know it's the easy to get to passenger one that's gone now - but I want to replace all of them. Soooooo (drum roll) I'm gonna buy the motors and get someone who's done loads of 'em to do mine. Not forgetting the heater o-rings while he's in there. I've got a quote for £250 labour so far, which seems reasonable. I've got a new upvc window to fit and brick wall to build - someone else can do the car!

£250 is a good price, take it!! yea for the few ££ extra you might as well get the job all done and dusted, your old ones that work, stick on eblag and claw some cash back, it all helps

And you saying about it don't help you have to do the job again, I know someone who bought paint for there Series II and did a great job of striping it all back and spraying it up, and 3 months later you could see the fading starting, after 6 months the colour almost washed out, it was nowhere near the colour it was meant to be, he went back and complained to the guy he got the paint from, and all he wanted to do was replace it, easy to do, but the guy was left either to strip it all back and start again, or put up with the washy colour, he was well ****ed off, and rightly so I think

Yes, that would be my luck! :)

The law doesn't give you a 5 year warranty. The sale of goods act gives some protection against faulty goods for up to 6 years but if the failure is wear and tear you have no protection. Goods have to be "suitable for the purpose intended" so in reality it's quite hard to get any recompense after 12 months especially on small items of little value.

£250 labour, plus parts which I supplied (Island 4x4), gave him an extra £25 to replace the heater matrix o-rings while he was in there. I just couldn't be asked to lay on my back in the footwell of a car cursing and swearing - getting too old for all that! :)

What usually goes wrong with the blend motors? I thought the gears got stripped because the various flaps started jamming in the heater.

So does anyone do anything to sort the flap problems before replacing the blend motors? Surely if you don't fix that then the new ones will strip pretty quicky too, warranty or not....?

I've seen a bodge to free a sticking main distribution flap, but nothing for the others. Mine's randomly sticking again now the weather has turned cold - I really ought to try that bodge before it trashes the blend motor.

You would think there was some brass cogs out there some place that would fit, so you could just replace them, its only a servo at the end of the day

Changing my pollen filters some crud fell into the blower motor out of reach now I've got a tick when the fan is spinning! Grrrrr! The old filters looked like a compost heap.

No doubt there's a south east surcharge! :D I do the vast majority of stuff myself automotive and house related, happy to rebuild engines, plumbing, electrics, brickwork, fit windows, build my own PCs whatever, but I hate fiddly jobs like poking around behind a half-dismantled dashboard with a passion! That's when the crusty wallet comes out!

Yep sireeee, dem dare suthereners, will take you for a ride in yer P38 all the way to da bank,
