Which ATB front diff?

Defender 110 - Front differential to be replaced. Which is the better unit?
Ashcroft ATB or Eaton Truetrac.

Where I live, if I were to purchase either unit they would roughly work out to the same cost each after shipping, taxes duties etc.

What is your opinion?

Never had Ashcroft, but everyone seems to like them, and Ashcroft are a good company, and helpful.

Tru Trac in the front of my Ninety has been good for eight years on farm work, no issues at all.

So I would think whatever is your own preference. Whatever lockers/LSDs you get, change the diff oil a lot. Every year, irrespective of hours run, as a minimum.

I haven't used either, but a bit of googling has revealed that the Eaton are assembled in Taiwan. I suspect you might get better after sales service through Ashcroft.

Not disagreeing that Ashcroft are good for service. They are. I have spoken to Ian Ashcroft on the phone, and he was very helpful.

And met his father when I bought a high ratio transfer box years ago. At that time, he made the stuff in a shed in his garden, and you picked it up from the house.
Nice chap, and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about landrovers, and general engineering.

Another vote here for Ashcroft. Mine have behaved well so far and they're competitively priced. Last time I had a hunt around on the internet, I couldn't find anyone complaining that they'd broken one. Whereas there are a lot of people complaining about Quaifes, which tend to be at the dearer end of the market.

I looked at Quaife before I got my Detroits. Are they made of solid gold, or maybe platinum!

I have Ashcroft's fitted front & rear.
Absolutely can't fault them,plus as others have said,great company to deal with & very knowledgable.

So clearly the majority are in favour of the Ashcroft ATB.

My reason for going with either the Ashcroft unit or the TrueTrac is generally for strength and better performance over the Rover 2-pin front differential Unit.
I have not had positive experiences thus far with the standard 2-pin differentials.

Ah that'll explain the high failure rate then. Bit soft for loadbearing components.
