Where's the temperature coolant sensor in TD4 BMW engine??

Hi folks,

Looking at the Haynes black and white picture is really not helping me locate the ECT sensor in my TD4.

Looking on workshop manuals I've found the attached two pics.

Can you please guide me through the process of replacing the coolant temperature sensor, I've taken off the air intake manifold but can't for the life of me see the sensor.

Just out of interest - what do you think is wrong with it?

Pretty sure it's number 18 on the picture. Think your picture might be for the V6 ??
