Seeking advice gentlemen. The problem - my 2004 Range Rover is dead. Turn the ignition key and all lights etc come on but the motor does not swing over.

I have had it at a mechanic who "specializes" in these vehicles. He claims he does not have the software for these "older" models. He thinks the key is not communicating with the ECU. I"m a layman when it comes to problems like this.

So far I have checked the Ignition switch, the immobilizer, the ECU has a clean bill of health, all fuses have been checked, relays checked and a brand new battery installed.

Today I will jack up the front of the vehicle and try to bridge the starter motor in order to establish that it is working.

Apart from the above I am lost.

Yesterday I phoned another Garage who "specializes" in these vehicles, they claim to know what is wrong but want R10 000,00 (588 Pounds) to sort it out. I can't afford that. I have a feeling it is something simple that I am over looking.

Any advise / suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you and Best Regards to all.
try first whether there is a signal to the engine ECU from the EWS.
If EWS doesn't send this the rest depends on which engine you have. For the ´petrol one I know a nice workaround

Yea on our farm we run all case mostly, Got three Maxxums fitted withe the cummins 5.9 and then weve got two 1594s which weve been restoring, My dads always had case stuff. Yea atkinsons were realy nice, hard to come by nowdays. I was thinking of an LS swap but their fairly expensive and tbh theyve been done to death id personaly rather fit a cummins V8 or a CAT if i could find a decent one cheap enough, I think that truck would stop being my daily driver though after i did that:p

Hi, I'm Steve
Born in Leamington Spa But moved to Gateshead in 2005 but i am now staying in Bedlington Northumberland for a short while ( staying with inlaws :( ) Iv had landrovers since 2001 and never looked back.
If I can get my currant Discovery 300tdi running cleaner then I'll be looking to join some Greenlaning outings.
Any reasonable Machanics on here near me who could mend it, feel free to look and give me a price.
Have a nice day everyone

Hello everyone,
Finally joined LZ after reading it for many years now. I'm Polish living in East Sussex. Got 2004 FL V6 SP and 1997 RR P38A Autobiography (1 of 30 so called CARiN Limited Edition). I'm a keen home mechanic with a fair amount of knowledge in both FLs and P38As.
In two/three years time I'm planning a 30 day expedition to Lake Baikal. I shall welcome somebody interested in a trip with me, either in his/hers own vehicle or in one of mine (ex-military Star 266 mobile workshop turned camper truck as a support vehicle and LR Disco2 or FL2.0td4). I speak Russian, too. Offer open to easy going people of both sexes. No hidden agenda, I am married. I just want to share the time and experience with like minded people. It will help if somebody else knows a thing or two about workings of a Land Rover. Share in costs. The more the merrier (and cheaper, too). Before the trip to Russia we could go for a short one anywhere in UK to make sure, we understand each other.
Cheerio!

Grew up in Romford and have lived near Colchester for the past 15 years . Bought a 08 Freelander 2
Have mates with discovery’s ! Love them all
Had a Jeep for one week and that went straight back

Do we know anyone who lives near a place called Blairgowrie in Scotland?? Anyone? I have something I need picking up, then I can arrange with you to have it collected as the seller doesn't want the hassle.

There is the LZ courier section for this sort of thing.

Cheers

I don't want a courier. I'll sort that out myself. The seller of an item isn't flexible/can't be arsed accommodating a courier, so it's local collection only. I want to know if someone lives in Blairgowrie, as in 'where do you live'.
