Ho. My name is Simon 8. I have. Disco 2. Its a 2002 Metropolis. So extended rood rails, sat nav, extra spot head lights. Its black with black leather. Tinted windows after rear post. Ive had a DAB/BT/phone Apline receiver in it for 5 years so listen to Radio 6 Music and Spotify a lot.

Ive owned it since 2005. Then it had about 40k miles on the clock. Now it has 192k. Its been a beauty to own. Its towed our Bailey caravan for 9 years. Had a canadian canoe on the roof and 4 bikes on a landy bike rack on the tow bar.

But its beginning to need a little tlc and is failing in a few places......

Seeking advice gentlemen. The problem - my 2004 Range Rover is dead. Turn the ignition key and all lights etc come on but the motor does not swing over.

I have had it at a mechanic who "specializes" in these vehicles. He claims he does not have the software for these "older" models. He thinks the key is not communicating with the ECU. I"m a layman when it comes to problems like this.

So far I have checked the Ignition switch, the immobilizer, the ECU has a clean bill of health, all fuses have been checked, relays checked and a brand new battery installed.

Today I will jack up the front of the vehicle and try to bridge the starter motor in order to establish that it is working.

Apart from the above I am lost.

Yesterday I phoned another Garage who "specializes" in these vehicles, they claim to know what is wrong but want R10 000,00 (588 Pounds) to sort it out. I can't afford that. I have a feeling it is something simple that I am over looking.

Any advise / suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you and Best Regards to all.

I'm not really a new member. I used to be on here years ago but have been inactive for a while - so I'd obviously been dumped as part of a database clean up and needed to sign in again.

So, I live near Sheffield, in a "posh" area, a village in a semi-rural location, which was once part of Derbyshire until the Sheffield sprawl got its mitts on it. The village has long been associated with wealthy people. It causes some people in Sheffield a problem, when you say you live here. They automatically raise a finger to their nose and infer you are a snob. I like that. I'm a working class lad, son of a coal miner. I grew up in a Derbyshire pit village in a 2 up 2 down terrace house, with no indoor toilets or bathroom or central heating...etc. So, I love it when people think I'm a snob for living in a nice area. I've always wanted to be in that position. It gives me a sense of achievement. So does driving a nice car.

I've had 3 Land Rover Discovery's to date. The old Td5, a Disco 3 2.7 V6 diesel and my current one, a Disco 4 3.0 V6 diesel. In the first instance, I rather hurriedly chose the Td5 as a company car whilst living and working abroad in Eastern Europe. The roads were terrible there, especially in winter - and I needed something that would go anywhere. I can't say I'd ever really fancied a Disco before - but I was so glad to have that old Td5. Felt safe in it and was a great car for the family - especially good because our two young kids could see out the windows and didn't get travel sick in it, like they did in ordinary cars, and they didn't fight as much because they weren't bored!

The Td5 was a bit "industrial" though - the Disco 3 was a different beast altogether, much more refined. And the Disco 4 that I currently run is the best of the lot. 120k trouble free miles so far.

I am considering trading up to a Range Rover - I will miss the Disco's utility though. But I'm not a fan of the new Discovery - I think the seats are very poor compared to my model, they've done away with "stadia seating" which was great for back seat passengers - and they can't even get the number plate centralised at the back. So, it's a no from me for that car.

I look forward to joining in the conversation on here once again.

Meanwhile...a little photo of our village green where all us snobs live, and where the first King of all England was crowned.

Hi, I've been a member here for around three years but tend to be a lurker rather than a poster. But I'm wanting to advertise my Disco 2 for sale soon so need to up my posting rate. So here goes:
I live in South Leicestershire in the East Midlands although I'm originally from Kent. I've been up here now for around 25 years and settled nicely. It's a lovely area and great for Land Rover owners, particularly in the winter when snow is on the ground and no one else can get anywhere.

No I haven't, as stated in my original post. I've not tried to hide anything and answered the post with a perfectly constructive reply to the thread title to build up my post count over the coming weeks. And was neither rude or disrespectful to your post, in fact I was in agreement and made light of that fact.
But don't worry, you've served your 'unofficial moderator' purpose and I won't bother you again. I'll get back to my life and you can continue trawl the forums for other people that don't reach your standard.

My name is Gerald (Jezz for short). My middle name is Richard (dunno why? as I'm Roman Catholic) and my surname is Bell (as in ding dong). My nickname is JezRbel. I live in Lancashire, more specifically a posh part of a crap town. No one can nick my Landy unless they can A) not trigger the perimeter alarm, B) not trigger the door switches, C) not trigger the internal microwave, D) not trigger the internal sensors, E) not trigger the anti-tilt mechanism, F) find the cut off switch separate from G) the immobiliser, then H) cope with all the spunk stains on my seats, the smell of three dogs, and the CD of Kylie Minogue which will execute them at 1k watts if they get the ignition on. In addition, the windows are tattooed and it's been dipped in DNA water, splattered everywhere and underneath said spunk stains containing mine and a thousand men's DNA from all over the UK. I pick my arse and eat pies then wipe my fingers clean on the seats, there's a rotten scotch egg tied to a hidden catapult that belts a skull from behind, and if none of all that works, the tracker will find the bas&%ds OR the hidden machete on a sprung wire will chop their fu%$n heads off. What's his face? conquered raiders of the lost ark. I'm well connected but most of all, I have multiple personality disorders and severe mental illness, so rob my car and you'll NEVER be safe. So Ner!
