Hi all, the as some might have noticed I posted the other day about calipers changing, as I thought it was the cause of my fault. The alas its not. and after a very short test drive I'm at a loose end! All help appreciated

Now the problem, when driving the disco all is fine, but when you break all hell starts. Uppon going more than 5 mile anhour and then you brake its as tho it locks all the breaks and they stick causing the car to shake and make Very loud noises! Sometimes the breaks stay on and won't release until I give it more revs then it clicks free. Tbh its just given me the scare of my life in that car. The problem was there before I changed the rear disk n breaks, as I thought they were the problem, and I'm now thinking the front but they were only changed 4 months ago.

I'm at a loss, and getting the rear done has left me low so I'm hoping to make sure first before purchasing new parts.

Regards

Once I went in reverse just now I don't think it's breaks either. Prop shaft looks fine the underside looks fine in general. By that nothing looks amiss.

Jack it up one wheel or axle at a time, get an assistant to sit in the car and apply and release the brakes while you try and turn one wheel at a time with the wheel brace, once you have tried all four whee you can either eleminate of confirm binding brakes,

Thanks all, now to answer all questions here are some more tests

1st point the car is absolutely Fine in reverse, no problems at all

Jacked the car up on each wheel at a time all spin fine and stop when breaks applied, and there were no "slow points" when breaks applied gently!

Tried the car in both Low and High gear, the problem was the same no change at all

Now the interesting point, when moving slowly then the wheel locked we made a chalk mark on the floor, reversed back a meter and went forward and every time it jammed in the same place (breaks applied gently) as if they wern't applied it was fine!

now the prop shaft it spun fine when in use but there is a bit of play left and right (twisting) when the wheels still, but at no point id it ever jam tho!

the car was all so in newtral with the clutch down and it still jammed when breaks applied!

Hope thats a little more to go on!

Thanks again every one for the advice!

p.s. now im at a pc i've edited the you tube link!, [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uVGU-HeOGI"]Landy problems - YouTube[/ame] so you can now see and hear the noise as well as my dullsit tones!

Warped discs, causing a 'pinch' at the caliper.

Did you change discs and calipers, just calipers or just pads?

Also when you check the props don't rely on just your eyes pull, push and use a large screwdriver or small prybar to check for movement or play.

I changed the disk and pads on all of the landy, and only one caliper, but i was thinknking pinch but the car is fine in reverse, so for me that kinda eliminated it and they were fine when jacked up, if you look at the vid i uploaded you can see the sudden jerk stop when it kicks in. its gott me paffles but i have a prybar i'll check the prop a little better tomorrow after work, thanks for replying

which disco? does brake pedal go hard when this happens ,have you tried slackening hand brake right off
its a 93 200tdi, no i haven't tried that but i will say ther handbreak needed tightened anyway its not that great i tend to park in gear just incase. and no just slightly can cause it.

not that fast a typer ;)

Its far to hard to be brakes warped. hand brake possibly slipped shoe lining but I'd would be checking crownwheel for teeth missing and or bits of steel locking in the gears. it seems very harsh a stop.

When you jacked it up and spun the wheels did the opposite wheel spin i.e go through the diff center opposed to turning the crownwheel/pinion.
