my 1993 disco has severe wheel wobble,
proper hard '''shaking''', when i hit about 55mph.
ive just had new front discs and pads,
had the wheels balanced but still shaking.
any ideas????

I had same problem, had new steering damper fitted and problem gone. Old one was seized solid.

It is worth always keeping in mind that it is usually extremely difficult to stop a vibration once it has started, if you maintain the conditions in which it happens.

Most wheely vibrations happen at certain speeds, or 'harmonics' of some speed.

But, it can be fairly easy to stop a vibration from starting up. Those anti-snaking devices on caravan draw-bars are a good example, and so are steering dampers. They prevent the initial movement from building up into an oscillation, and so no vibration.

Even soggy bushes on a steering damper might cause a really horrible vibration right through the steering.

very similar problem recently, tried Wheel bearings, steering, tyres, etc, turned out to be the front propshaft UJ, this had become very worn abnd was the vibration. worth checking out as it is often overlooked on serviceing as they have the ever present grease nipple that never gets checked and mine went wonky as i pulled my caravan out of the drive. not to expensive to fix just get the prop rebalanced and new bolts for the above new uj is about £25 each and labour around £60 as they need a vice and some other tools of the trade.
A new prop shaft complete on ebay is about £75 inc postage.
You will be able to tell if its gone as a good look under neath will show wear in them. Andy
