That's me!I'm happy doing it by feel and the steering has always been great with even the slightest movement of the steering wheel transferring to the wheels so I'm confident there's no slack there. I did check the drop arm but can't see any issues. I found this thread which sounds very similar, it not quite as bad

Bump steer
Ok most likely not quite the correct technical term but since it happens when I hit a bump that is what I'm going to call it. I have some play in the steering somewhere when I hit a bump/pothole mainly on the passenger front, mind you that could be because most potholes are on the passenger...www.landyzone.co.uk
Seems like I forgot to update it.
The drop arm, once off, was indeed knackered, the ball joint was both stiff and loose, if that even possible!
Changed that and replaced the worse than useless Britpart steering damper which had been on there a couple of years. I fitted a TF damper which is (upgraded) but has an annoying side effect of not returning the steering to centre so easily on slower corners, you have to be more conscious of turning the wheel back yourself. On general driving it works quite well. A combination of the two has pretty much sorted the problem, front shocks and springs look like they are getting on a bit. Previous owner had one front spring replaced which isn't helpful.
