Having just bought a new toy - County 330Tdi 110 - we wanted to keep the set of BFG A/T we had from the 90 which we're selling.

The BFGs are on a set of (I think) standard Land Rover alloys. The problem is that on full lock the tyres are rubbing the trailing arms on the front - other than that drives fantastically.

So basically what I'm looking for is a bit of advice on possible cures - the 110 is not going to be doing any serious off-roading (the odd green-lane and so on where the body-work isn't going to get a hammering), I'm keeping my Series for the more serious stuff.

I understand that wheel-spacers add extra load onto the bearings but how bad is it? Is it bad enough to warrant getting a set of offset wheels instead? Bearing in mind that I'm probably going to rack up the miles in it - done 800 since picking it up yesterday...

I've thought about that and will probably do that as a temporary measure, however it's driven fairly frequently into London and the garage which we have here is nice and tight to get into not helped by the people who regularly park illegally on the other side of the street. So (long-term anyway) would like to maintain the turning circle although until I decide on a course of action will adjust the stops.

Once they have a few Land Rover shaped dents in their illegally parked cars they'll stop leaving them in the way. I used to live in London and almost every day I had to nudge and push cars that had left me an inch either end to get out. I cant understand what goes through some peoples minds when they look at the front bumper of a Land Rover then park their shiny motor that close to it. My record was seven cars end to end in one push. They were trade ins that the local garage had parked outside my house despite a court order forbidding them to do so. They knew I'd done it but could never prove anything.

I've contemplated it several times, I know that Dad's once (quite a few years ago) dragged a BMW down the street with the Shogun since it was illegally parked and badly. Left some nice number 11's all the way down the street.

wheels spacers basically do the same as larger offset wheels. both will eat bearing quicker than normally, but not so dramatically that you will notice a huge difference. new modular wheels will be cheaper than spacers.

modulars. 8 inch wide would probably do. we need to know what wheels you have now and what offset they are and what size tyres.

or spacers. which ever. it depends on if you like your wheels. if you do get some spacers which relate to what extra offset you need, if you don't, get some wheels with a better offset. 10mm seesm to be the absolute max for spacers using extended bolts. the double bolt kind are around 30mm. which is quite alot.

i run standard land rover alloys with 265/75R16 tyres and 35mm spacers and have no probs and i have friends who run there landys with spacers and larger wheels and have no problems.
