Hi,

I have just bought a 1997, 2.5 TDI GS Disco and have found that the bottle jack and wheel wrench is missing :mad:

I have got a bottle jack priced up at Halfords (£16.00), but wandered what size the standard wheel nuts are, so I can purchase a wheel wrench ..

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Cheers

Paul

Or get a breaker bar and 27mm 6 sided socket :) much better than landy wrenches and dont bend when trying to get the nuts off ;)

1. The D2 wheel wrenches don't bend, I've just finished changing 8 wheels - in 29° !!

2. The Paddocks HD definitely doesn't bend;

3. The wheel nuts don't have to be done up that tight. 100ft/lbs from memory.

:)

:doh: I misread your first point biglad, for some reason I was still thinking about the landy wrench from my 300tdi which bent the first time i tried it. Nuts werent on too tight either and didnt take a lot of pressure with the breaker bar.

Maybe LR got a bit better with quality control for the D2 wrenches, theres always a first time for everything ;)

As already posted wheel nuts are 27mm, you are probably better with a breaker bar and socket IMHO.

As for using a standard bottle jack, I wouldn't. Standard landy bottle jack is great and the saddle is made to fit nicely under the axle tube making it rather more secure than a standard bottle jack with a flat(ish) head. Also, the landy jack has a reasonable base area and I have found it to be quite stable. New they are a bit pricey but You should be able to get second hand ones from a Landy breaker, look on eblag or go to a Land Rover show, always plenty being sold.

Get one of those electric impact wrenches that plugs into the cig lighter socket.They have a 1/2 drive so you can put on a 27mm socket :D
Works for me-no effort involved :)
