Disco 1 Wheel bearings.

Changing the rear wheel bearings today, the lr shop I had the bearing kit off said only one seal was
Reqd in the rear of the hub but I've taken two out front and rear?.. any info would be great thanks.

I thought it depended on your VIN number ..as there was a change.

But I may be wrong........

Blimey, that's a mess! There should be just one rotating lip seal between the hub and the stub axle as far as I'm aware - sounds like Neilly's knowledge is deeper than mine though; I wasn't even aware there had been a change.

Saw that, nice and simple and done the job....

Is 16 mines a thin washer, but says its up to 1998. It's all gone together ok
Minus the outer seal lol ???

Think it's this one, but it's still got two seals, looks like it's commin off
Again lol.

If your Disco is std, then depends on the VIN number. As I read it.

If you go back a page it shows the change due to VIN number. Before VIN JA032851 had two seals after had one.


The kit I have as a spare in my car has only one seal.

Although if you want an expert answer, may be worth giving JamesMartin a shout.

Yippee it can stay as it is lol.

later axles ues 1 seal as half shaft has a seal track and a seal in stub axle to prevent axle oil entering the bearings, earlier has no track or seal in stub axle but has a seal on the outer side of bearings in the hub ie 2 seal in the hub,bearings are the same

Are the seals the same on the later axles for front and rear axles?

hi mr ,ftc4785 (used to be ftc2783)is used as the inner hub seal for earlier and the later type front and back,since no oil is supposed to enter bearings it has no garter spring

Thanks James, I did wonder whats the point of a outer seal when the halfshafts
Got a gasket on. It did have the stub axle seal in, had to take that off aswell
As part of the bearin was seized on it lol.
