I am changing all the wheel bearings on my series 3 1980, how do I know if they are imperial or metric, the old bearings are SKF and are marked.
I have been told this is the year when they changed from imperial to metric.

if they are the later bearings they will both be the same size ,(rtc3429)earlier bearings were 2 different sizes (rtc3416 and rtc3426)

Why are you changing them?
Have you checked them for wear or do they just need adjusting?
The bearings are tapered roller bearings and need the preload set up on them ie tightening the nuts that hold in place will reduce movement .
Do you have access to a manual ?

I am doing a nut and bolt restoration, this Landy lay in a barn for 15 years, so I am changing them as a matter of course:eek:

All you need are the numbers off your old ones to order like for like ... And fit Timkens!

Don't fit britpart ones (the price difference between britpart and timken should tell you something). Theres been some right stories over the years with britpart ones
