Could somone please tell me how I check the Wheel Bearings on My TD4 Automatic. The only Jack I have is the one supplied with the car. The reason I ask the car seems to have developed a metal rubbing noise since having a tyre repaired last Monday and I"ve only done 30 or 40 miles since. I it could be coming from the rear, it"s not loud so I was wondering whether it was one of the bearings.

You had 1 tyre fixed. Have you checked that all 4 are pumped to the same pressure since fixing it? I presume all 4 are the same make/model of tyres and least worn on the back axle.

I'd strongly recommend getting a hydraulic/trolley jack and possibly a couple of axle stands. The standard jack is only really designed as an emergency device - I usually use my trolley jack, but the jack that came with the car is completely knackered having used it a few times to do jobs on the car.
