I was thinking of upgrading my speakers but then looking at a speaker thread, it all depends as well as where you put the speakers! The ones I had before I took them out where put just behind my ear on a piece of poorly held plywood, turn the speakers up past 8 and the plywood would rattle and you would go deaf in one ear!

I was wondering how you have setup your speakers? :D

I made boxes out of 12mm ply for kenwood 6x9's and mounted them angled in a bit below the rear side windows sitting on the wheel arch. sounds fine

5 channel Maystar amplifier behind passenger seat.
Front channels drive Boston Acoustics component setup - tweeters on top of dash, woofers on underside of dash.
Rear channels drive Boston Acoustics co-axial 6x9s in pods either side of rear door.
Sub-woofer is a Boston Acoustics 8" in a custom made enclosure between the front seats.
Alpine head unit with 320GB hard drive in cubby box.

Most of these bits came out of previous motors - I had a box of stuff sat in the loft so I thought I might as well stick it all in the Ninety. Most people have been pleasantly surprised at the result!

We have the usual two in the dash and two free standing ones fasten to the dog guard.

I have a pair of 350W 6x9's in speaker boxes either side of the rear door and a couple of 150w 4" speakers in the dash. I don't have a head unit in there yet though:doh:

It was delivered this week but I can't pick it up till tomorrow, can't wait to get it fitted to hear how it sounds, once I hear it I'll see if it needs a sub / amp etc

Mine came with 2 4" Clarions mounted in the roof interior thingy.
They sound like ****.
Any more than 25mph and they cannot be heard.

Problem with the dash is that there is no room, after taking the crappy LR speakers out the holes are two small and not enough depth to fit decent speakers, I got over this by making some 2cm thick washers out of a 100mm waste pipe joint, now got some sony 2 x 40w's in the dash, same in the back door and I kid you not sounds better in the 110 than the system in the Disco :D

Pointless putting anything half decent in the pods under the dash, its ust firing at your knees.

I got Apline Tyre R's in headlining, with the tweeters ontop dash and crossover behind dash
and another pair of apline tyre R's in the rear home made MDF above rear door/side panels.

With a pioneer headunit powering it, was guna drop one of my amps in but cudnt find anywhere out of harms way to mount it.

Yup, I mostly agree. However, given that it's the high-frequencies which are easier to determine the direction of, by putting the tweeters on top of the dash and the woofers in the under-dash pods, with adjustable cross-overs between them you can get a reasonable "sound stage" in the front. I appreciate it's far from ideal - but it is in a Landy! :)

Behind passenger seat? There's plenty of room on the rear bulkhead.

Yeh True, but then i find you need to have it so loud that it makes it an unpleasant listen anyway.

I no by putting the woofers higher than the tweeters its not perfect, but you can hear it alot better without mega volume.

Yeh thought about that, have jacks and tools strap behing seats, it would fit but would need some fiddiling maybe a job for a nice sunny day.....

looking to make mine sound better soon too. i had 2 little things up by mine and my passengers ears, so was deaf! i removed them and put 2 speakers from my golf at the back under the windows in a box. but with it being a 110 it sounds miles away! im guna get some 6x9 ones instead and hopefuly refit the lil ones i have on the dash, but im not sure about having them on top of the dash... anyone got pics!?

I guess every setup is different - with the balance between front and back right, I can turn the volume up enough to drown out the engine and it's still fine to listen to. There's certainly no distortion until way past the "painful" setting :D
