just bought a 03 td4 found a pipe dangling down back of engine with asmall filter attached but this has been blanked off is this correct help appreciated

Small pipe with a clear plastic filter (looks like a petrol filter)?
Pipe goes in one side and should have nothing attached to the other.
As booboodag says - it should be open!
If yours is blocked off then that is wrong. It is a vent pipe and it will affect the turbo operation.
There are some nice piccys of the filter on the forum - someone will be along soon to point you if you cannot put up a piccy of your own.
This all gets a lot easier if we can see what you mean.:)

will get photo TD JOHN & booboodag have told me its a vent pipe & should be open thanks again everyone

If it is not venting to air then you run the risk of the increase in pressure blowing the turbo seals, and a costly repair bill, just done one for a friend last week cost of £600 for the parts. As for it running ok it normally will, its just the damage that can happen.

A lot of people do not know what its for and are you sure its blanked off as, a lot of them has a small rubber piece on the end which have a open end.

I know exactly what thats called ,but cant remember right now I'll need to look at my haynes in the morning light, not got me boots on right now but I'll edit it in here.

According to one of the big LR parts shops in the U.K. it's the EGR air filter ?? Others name it as being the turbo vent. Think it's an air filter on the vacuum system ?
