Hi there!

I registered today to learn some more about the Freelander mk1 2001 that I own, and I have a question for you right away.
When I look under the bonnet at the pipe between the air cleaner box and the engine intake, I see two 'things' that I wonder what they are for.
Could anyone of you tell me that?

Thanks!

Funnly enough i asked the exact same question to my nephew when he fitted my new battery yesterday while we cbecked out the egr and various things mines a 2.0 di/dt forvet which it does seem a pointless thing

yeap, the L-series only has the shorter one,
I was told it's function is to catch excessive oil that comes out of the rocker cover breather, I take it out and clean it regularly and it always drips some oil.

Ah, that doesn't even sound very stupid :)
I'll check it out this week, who knows there's a load of oil in it, because it's never cleaned I guess...

The main function is to reduce induction noise. There is a secondary function to boots torque slightly. The pipes are tuned to cancel induction noise at set engine rpm. It happens that a torque increase is a byproduct of this noise cancellation. Lots of engine's use these short closed off pipes
Hope that answers your question?

Ah, great! I already started to think that no one really knows :)

Maybe I'm just too curious, but anyway I'm happy to know now that it has indeed a function!
Thank you!
