99/V Facelift
Insurance Cat D total loss write off - stolen / recovered
85000 miles
FSH not all main dealer, recent ones not
Very clean condition inside and out, good paint, no dents/rust/scratches. interior as good as i've seen.
Everything works, it even starts, goes forwards, backwards, left and right! ;-)
11months MOT, couple of months Tax
New tyres all round, and a few other bits replaced, nothing major.

What would you pay?

is it your car vinny?

bieng an insurance jobby then they do loose alot of value, i think its minimum 30% but thats been on all the newer cars i have looked at (not for me). going by the fact(?) that insurers will pay around 75% of the cars value for repairs (info via a traffic cop) then i suspect breaking will be the more cost effective/expensive option. if its a runner etc you may well achieve the going rate. dunno if its your liability to tell the prospective owners of its status.

Not mine, it was one I was looking to buy.
Its been sold now anyway, for less than I was willing to pay, not by much tho.
99 onwards seem to be worth a bit more than 96-98's, when I say a bit, there's quite a jump, any reason for this.
Seen 2000/01 Vogues for £6-8k, seems very pricey in this market.

Taxation ... people think it's not worth spending an extra £100 a year on road tax (whatever the difference is) for cars registered after 01 ... so 00 and 01 cars have kept slightly higher prices.

Whatever the actual tax situation is (doesn't bother me as I'm happy with what I've got) I believe it's a misconception that savings on tax will work out cheaper than buying a later model> As you've seen, the cars just before the perceived cutoff date are keeping values quite well, so they're having to pay more than the tax saved anyway!!

That's why I said 'whatever the situation is' ... I knew there were changes and turnarounds and stuff, but didn't know exactly what ... which was my point .. a lot of people have the perception (rightly or wrongly ... get-out clause) that pre 01 models are cheaper tax bracket, hence the price of 00 and 01 cars are artificially higher than they maybe should be.

Reality doesn't really matter anymore ... ;)

i was reading earlyer that cars registered between 2001 and 23/03/06 with gas guzzleing engines will TEMPORARALY go into tax band f regardless of imissions which is the same as pre 2001 think it is 205 pound per year from april carnt remember what site i visited though but thats how it is for now

go here u will see band f over 185g band g is only for 2006 onwards http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524
