island4x4 are suppose to be very good as for the difference in the gaskets ive no idea.

You will probably find that £35 is JUST a head gasket and £115 is head gasket plus all the other gaskets you will need to put it back together. Why not ask them exactly what you get.

are you having the heads skimed? if so you should be able to get your gaskets from them the best ones are not the cheepest and come wraped alone and not together hope this is of some help

get the ones from island 4x4,it is the complete top half kit,had mine fitted for 9months now with know probs, rimmers are an expensive company anyway, but most after market kits are around £70+ from independant automotive shops, make sure you get new head bolts or arp head studs

sorry what are arp head studs? and do the bolts not come in the kit from island 4x4, its a hell of a difference in price so thought might be lower quality but if you suggest them il take your word for it :)

the guys on ere know their stuff, + very helpful :D

it,s very rare for any head kit to come with the bolts, they are a seperate buy, about £15 from island 4x4,arp head studs are a different approach they are a stud that screw into the block and then a nut and washer is used along with torque settings to tighten them down, where as the standard head bolts are a stretch type and require a torque setting followed by 90 deg turns, with either a dab of paint or a proper angle gauge, arp studs are good but expensive

I seem to recall seeing a lot of Brit-Part spares on the Island 4x4 webby..... if so that could explain some of the price difference. Rimmers, from memory tend to sell a lot of Bearmach stuff........ for about twice the price any-one else does!
My preffered supplier is Craddocks.... mainly becouse I have to pass them on the way to mi mums! But parts they flog are usually OK and keenly priced..... check thier webby.

Would say check a number of suppliers. Rimmer sell a lot of OEM stuff therefore twice the price, they also list pattern parts which is what the cheaper prices reflect. You also need to check what is in a "kit" of parts. I have found for some things Rimmers are actually cheaper. Bottom line, shop around.

i would get the seperate head gaskits but the rest of the top end kit is fine, the bolts are also on fleebay for around 20 sheets and also get the rocker bolts too as one of mine sheered when undoing it so i had to wait a few days to sort that out!

so if island 4x4 sell the brit-part ones i dont wanna go there? tried the craddocks website doesnt look like they do a head gasket kit

have ordered the head gasket kit should arrive next few days, finally got the Rave cd to work and have been trying to familiarise myself with the process :-0 !! my p38 is a 1997 one so according that means i use the v8 overhaul manuals and not the workshop manuals??? i didnt realise they had changed the engine during the p38 production

if you go in to the rave, workshop manual got to landrover v8 engine scroll to cylinder head you should get cylinder head up to 1999 and cylinder head from 1999

nah it says for pre 99MY use overhaul manual, and tell me if im bein thick but it says to tighten head bolts to 20nm (15lbf.ft) then a further 90 degrees. is the 90 degress without the torque wrench then?
