please correct me if im wrong but my td4 se i have bought has the same power output as the sport model. if so why is it called sport?. while im on is a remap or £400ish really worth it. mine does seem to lag a little between gear changes till the turbo kicks in but some say it can transform it. thanks all

agreed just seems a bit daft. do you have a link to roverron. i'm guessing your talking about plug in boxes. are these as good as a custom remap. also does a plugin box require any other mods like stronger intercooler hoses and stuff or is it plug and drive.

The Sport part mainly refers to the suspension, lower and stiffer, and the tyres.

synergy 2 by roverron is widely regarded as THE upgrade for the TD4. it's plug and play and totally reversible. coupled with an EGR bypass, should give a notable increase in power and driveability.

Go with roverron. 2 years now for me & it's well worth it. No, you don't need to uprate anything, just follow all his advice & you'll be fine. Yes, you might get a little more from a good remap as they can alter the boost whilst roverrons box deals solely with fuelling but it'd be less than 10% better & as you say around £400 compared to less than £200 for roverrons gizmo. One thing a remap can't help you with is the maf degredation that afflicts all freelanders after about 30k miles but roverrons synergy 2 unit comes with built in maf compensator - big bonus. Also fit an egr bypass too & you won't be disappointed. Do it now, & you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

please can you tell me the implications of map degredation what are the symptons ,thank you

The unit starts to drift out of spec electrically & doesn't send the correct information to the ecu about the airflow being sucked through the air filter. Low down performance starts to suffer & eventually the car will feel like nothing happens till about 2000rpm when power will suddenly kick in. Many people assume this is due to the turbo coming in but it's not. In extreme cases (usually total failure) the car will be almost undriveable & feel dangerous pulling out from junctions. The easy test is to unplug the maf & the ecu will revert to it's own preprogrammed default values. If the car now runs much better, you know your maf isn't good. If you continue to run with it unplugged, your economy & performance can suffer as the ecu is not accurately metering the incoming air though it's better than running with it faulty.
Even though my maf appeared ok, I did notice a small performance improvement below 2000rpm when using roverrons unit (I bought a separate mafam & synergy 1 before the synergy 2 became the only & better option) which meant my maf was a little out of spec.
