hi all,can anyone advise me with regards to tools ill need for the p38,been looking at socket sets and i want to make sure i get the right sizes theres a lot of quite big nuts etc on the car

tia tony

Go to Halfords (not a place i usually go to but......) they do a very good and was cheap a few years back, the "Professional Range" they give you a Lifetime Guarantee on the sets, i have had mine for 6 years now, and used them to fully restore my Series II, and still use them on my P38 and others cars when im helping others, and the bits that have broken i took them back and had them replaced with no hassle at all, well worth the spend

just buy the £99 halfords professional kit as a starter then build up,thats how i started now i can,t get in the shed for tools

i have a uncle(in law) with a fully equipped workshop so i dont really buy tools but the few i have needed werent expensive and i have a habit loosing tools inside the enginebay!!

thought i was the only one to loose stuff in the engine bay, mind last time i lost a socket,i found it with my extendable magnet along with 2 other sockets, and they weren,t mine

i think the biggest surprise, was finding just short of £5 in change next to the becm, when i removed the drivers seat to fix the heated seat

well at least mines used no fuel while its been laid up! its the cheapest its ever been, won't be soon tho when i start the engine rebuild!

the main thing is spare cash to get stuff, if i had all the stuff i reckon a weekend would get it in and out, i am quite agile when i have the parts to hand. also got to wait for heads skimming too!

i know what you mean gav,i want to overhaul my cooling system before i go eastnor in june, and at the same time i want to add more software to my rovacom

rovacom! i got one, well its a hammer really but it works just the same!! lol!! get the heating done! the rovacom is useless if the rangie is dead due to overheating!!

up to now i havnt had to have the ecu's looked at, although the car has been sat since xmas day so i'm a bit worried as to whether it will start up after a jump or a battery charge! ive got to tow it to yard as the engine overheats but its fine if its just sat at idle, i.e for the power steering and brakes!

IF you can somehow get a letter saying your a mechanic or work in the industry, they give you a trade discount card, and you'll get a 40% discount, or near enough that anyway, i have one and save a lot on tools, makes it worth while buying stuff from them as they are over priced

along with your VAT registration details and invoices showing that you've spent at least 3 grand over the last quarter

even with a trade card there are many much cheaper places to buy from
