What to look for when buying a 200tdi??

Plannin on buyin 200tdi engine to stick in me landy. Howeva dont wanna buy an nackered engine and then hav 2 spend a load fixin it! :doh: Is ther anythin to look for that would indicate a problm? cheers

Excessive smoke, too much noise when running (gotta hear it in the donor vehicle), not cleanly revving all the way to the max (if they don't let you rev it, walk away, but don't overdo it!), dirty oil, unusual squeaks and grinds, too much oil and oil actively dripping out. Ask for proof of cam belt but probly best change it with the clutch anyway.
