Hi People,
new member here and seeking some knowledge about a Mk 1 (1999) 1.8 5 door. This was my wifes car until recently ( and boy did we have some fun with head gaskets, bearings, electric windows etc etc!). Anyway cured all the probs over the years and the car was, and is, a good motor. Now then, we gave the car to my mother who absolutely adores it and would never entertain another vehicle - she does about 1000 miles a year - yes, one thousand! The car has the factory R770 stereo tape player fitted - beige colour - but mother wants a CD player - single. I have looked on fleabay and the workshop manual (which I still have), and do not want to get involved in fitting a multi CD unit. So after all that meandering intro the question is - is there a direct replacement single CD head unit for the R770, preferably in beige but black would have to do, or do I need to go to one of those shops with experts who will sell me a head unit with some sort of adapter lead and plug that costs more than the head unit? You know what I mean!

Knowledge and experience gratefully received.

Hi You can get an i.s.o adapter cable on flea-bay for a few quid and then you can put in nay cd radio of any colour you choose 15 minute job when you get the adapter lead:)

Thanks Gordon. I googled your sugestion and all the technical charts indicate that the Freelander Nov 97 to Apr 01 without stalk control, does not 'normally' need an interface. Whole list of changes by the year! Thanks for the pointer, I think the next move is to take out the R770 and photograph the connections so that I can be sure what to buy.

Cheers again

or you could fit the standard "visteon" unit which was factory fit for some models. the philips C42 is a reasonable unit, and fitting the multi changer isn't that hard, takes about an hour start to finish.

however, both a bit dated with some of the new features available on other makes, like bluetooth, mp3 etc.

good luck
