hello people nice easy one but i can't find anything on here so decided to post.

P38 on air no lift so all standard. I ccurrently have 275/40/20 which i believe come out at 28inch. I want to fit some bigger tyres to the rangy. My mate is running 265/70/16 (30.6inch) which fit on mine and his rangy with no scrubbage. I thought they were 265/75/16 (31.7inch). Today i went out and bought 265/75/16 on modular wheels only to find out they don't fit. The main problem being the modulars are totally the wrong offset.

My question is has what size tyres have you managed to fit on your rangy with no mods. Would 265/75/16 fit using the standard 5 spoke 16 rangy wheels??

I have a 255 60 16. was a spare for one of my classics. Fitted on both front and rear with no scrubbing. But was only 3/4 inch from touching front radius arm on full lock. Not sure about the P38 though

rangerovers.net have got a good section about tyre sizes and mods necessary. I`ve a set of 245/75/16s. With no body or suspension mods it gives an extra inch under the diffs with no rubbing issues, except a very faint "kiss" to the arch liner on full articulation. And there`s a choice of makes in this size.

245s are actually narrower than 255s. The greater rolling diameter gives better ground clearance, if needed. Tyres with a 75 aspect-ratio will give more side wall flexibility, which is often good off-road, but undesirable on road. Choosing tyres is always a compromise and the standard sizes are good for most uses, but the compromise can be "angled" one way or t`other according to taste.

i haven't notices any problems whit the 255/65 -16 on mine p38 with standard wheels :)

but i haven´t looked under it

I have 17" Disco 3 wheels with 235/70 x 17 Cooper Discoveror ATR Tyres for the winter on my Diesel P38 and have no problems but have to admit mine is slightly modified as it runs on coils (so probably not much help), but they fill the arch nicely. 255/55 x 18 Cooper Zeon for the rest of the year.
Davie.
