Slightly differant size tyres on the front?

Got 265 75 16's all round, fronts are near the limit, mot soon.
Local tyre discount place has the same make and tread pattern but the 75 is 70. Is that an issue? I know what the 75/70 means, I've just forgot what it's called. Heats getting to me:eek:

I reckon it will cause issues with the drivetrain, and maybe even the mot if the tester spots it.
 
You're supposed to have all the tyres the same size on a four wheel drive. Unless of course it's a tractor in which case the gearing is designed to accommodate the different wheel sizes. Having said that, a fresh 70 is probably not that much smaller than a well worn 75. With two wheel drive cars, people seem to get away with having bigger wheels on the back than on the front if it's a customised vehicle. But maybe they've got a matching set of wheels for the MOT.
 
As far as the transmission is concerned there will be no issue, it is what the center diff does, allow for different speeds between front and rear wheels. With diff lock in on slippery ground no problem as normal.
235/75/16 is my normal running size but my spare is a 600/16 [ lot less weight on rear door which I open and close a lot with work. ] How can you do that people ask? Magic of a diff I answer.
 
It will be fine until it welds its self together.
The centre diff allows the props to turn at different speeds when cornering so your not going fast
plus the speed difference isnt that much, if you've got 2 different size tyres then the speed difference
will increase causing more friction.
The centre gears aint designed for high speeds & the planet gears will weld to the cross pins.
You could argue that you have 2 worn tyres & 2 new tyres so in the same situation or is it.
Mot wise its legal to have different sizes from front to rear but not across the axle.
How long would you leave a different size spare on yer landy not long yup ive done it.
70/75 is the aspect ratio of the tyre.

I wouldnt do it to my landy & wouldnt advise anyone else to do it to theres, all good until it sh!ts its self then

How many of you lot would take the chance with your own landy.......... If any of you say you would id say your full of sh!te.
 
Only time I have seen center diff give up is on off road events when someone has forgot the lock and is spinning the front axle only trying to get out of a hole.
As for sh!te we all know where that comes from.
 
Get the tyre place to order the right size yer need.
Nobody can get them at the price I want to pay, almost double of the tyre discount place would charge me, that size and type/make is short of supply and the lead time if they can get them is too long, mot soon.
Anywhoo, it works out not a lot more to replace all 4 with 265 70 16 so that's what I'm doing cos I'm feckin loaded :rolleyes:
 
All fitted and the iffy looking spare tyre swopped out for one of the still excellent 265 75 16 that was on the rear. So 4 times hifly 265 70 16s all terrains fitted and balanced and one of the old tyres fitted to the spare rim...£245 , pleased with that.
The hiflys have been good tyres for a tratter anyway, no problems in the wet or snow dunno about mud though but I don't do mud much now.
