It's rust and deposits from whatever engine it was connected to before you bought it. Should all disappear with a good back flushing with a hosepipe.

Hi mate ive had a new engine and i noticed some s??t the same as yours, it does look like some sort of additive ,kseal, etc, best bet get a new radiator so you know its right.

why are you messing about with a second hand rad on a new engine ????? fatal dont even consider it you can end up with serious problems throw it in the bin and buy a brand new one,im just trying to help you,if you cut corners now you will regret it:confused:

which is why you should of bought a new one!
you run the risk of knackering your engine, and costing more money, peace of mind go for new.

With the hundreds of "Overheating" posts on here and a large percentage related to the Radiator, I fully agree with the majority who say "Fit a new one".
At least you will know that everything, cooling wise, is good.
Check your hoses whilst you are at and throw those stupid "Spring" type hose clips in the bin and fit good old Jubilee type, stainless clips instead.

all good....new rad delivered, fitted....job jobbed.

these heater matrix 'O' rings however......such a fun job....NOT!!
