Was driving along slowly today after a round trip of about 20 or so miles when there was a bang and car juddered - I really thought the car behind had bumped me - missus thought we'd driven over something or hit a pothole. I pulled over (and I can't remember if I coasted or drove or whether I thought I drove but was in fact coasting!) and got out but no potholes and driver hadn't bumped me.
Put car in gear and no drive. Tried hi and low plus difflock but nada. Car will start, noticed whirry noise when I tried it in third and let clutch out but nothing else. Towtruck home, divorce pending....:(

Garage thinks it's a transfer box problem. Can't do this myself as I don't have the tools or the time...and probably not the skills! - this is our only car. Had to hire one this week for school runs. Box should be out by now so hopefully find out the worst tomorrow. They are hopeful they can repair the box otherwise they will have to replace it. Not so straightforward over here but they have found a Spanish scrappy who will sell them one but only with the gearbox too. FFS had to replace the gearbox on me last one too! Probably my last ever Disco this one. Glad ye're amused anyhow!

Well, I'm up against a couple of difficulties, a lot of the local Spanish garages will rip of the English and the English garages here will rip off anyone so me Disco's in the local Russian garage! I trust em but the language barrier is greater as my Spanish is crap (taking lessons though!) and my Russian is as good as yours! (ok I'm guessing again!:) ) They do have a mentality of fixing things rather than replacing them though and they did a load of investigative work on it yesterday. I'm at their mercy at the mo so we'll see how things progress comrades!

In that case I wish you good lucksky!! :p

Surely the first port of call when losing drive is at the Clutch! When you felt the bang where was it from, frount or rear?

Couldn't tell. Just a bang and a shudder. Clutch in and it went into all gears easily ...too easily, I felt at the time. I sensed something not right with gearbox rather than clutch but I'm famous for being wrong. I feel the transfer box is more likely than the clutch.....which probably means it's the clutch. I'll keep the red flag flying and see what happens anyway.
